Aircraft acquisition is a serious investment that offers unique and very complex challenges. Aside from understanding how to evaluate the quality and performance of an aircraft, you’ll need to follow several important steps and considerations to ensure you’re compliant with industry and government regulations.
That’s a lot to consider, which is why it’s essential to have the proper team backing you up to ensure a successful acquisition and smooth operations. While other advisors offer fragmented expertise, narrow focus, or conflicted guidance, VanAllen helps you see the full picture, anticipate potential risks, and make decisions with confidence.
As a full-service advisory partner, we help you navigate all phases of the aircraft acquisition process, for both new and pre-owned aircraft.
The New Aircraft Acquisition Process
As your partner, our role is to oversee and manage every phase of an acquisition. Every process is unique, but for new aircraft you can usually expect the following phases.
- We’ll start by defining your requirements, budget, timeline, and acquisition strategy. This will help identify and evaluate the aircraft options that meet your operational and financial criteria, and ensure we consider the right aircraft and aviation utilization models for your needs.
- Once a decision is made, we’ll submit a formal offer and negotiate price, terms, and key contingencies on your behalf. Our team will draft and finalize the purchase agreement to protect your interests and allocate risk.
- On acceptance of the aircraft, we’ll conduct a comprehensive review of the aircraft’s cosmetics, equipment, and performance to ensure it meets purchase agreement criteria.
- During the closing, we’ll execute final documents, transfer funds, and finalize your legal ownership of the aircraft, including the title transfer, registration, insurance, and any regulatory filings.
- Finally, we’ll help prepare your newly acquired aircraft for service, including crew, maintenance, training, and operational approvals.

The Pre-Owned Aircraft Acquisition Process
We’ll also manage every phase of acquiring pre-owned aircraft. Our process is designed to meet your needs, and will usually consist of the following phases.
- We’ll define your mission requirements, budget, timeline, and acquisition strategy to determine the aircraft options that will best meet your established operational and financial criteria.
- When we’ve located the right aircraft, we’ll submit a formal offer and negotiate the price, terms, and key contingencies. This includes drafting and finalizing the purchase agreement to protect your interests and allocate risk.
- We’ll conduct a comprehensive technical and records inspection to confirm the aircraft’s condition and value.
- As part of closing, we’ll execute final documents, transfer funds, and finalize your legal ownership of the aircraft, including the title transfer, registration, insurance, and any regulatory filings.
- Finally, we help prepare your acquired aircraft for service, including crew, maintenance, training, and operational approvals.
In the end, we help you secure the right aircraft so your aviation program can operate seamlessly, safely, and efficiently — all so you’re able to focus on what matters most.
